As part of the second phase of the metro project, GMRC (also known as Metro Authority) is already working to link the metro train to GIFT City.
According to sources in GIFT City, while construction on the metro’s second phase continues, the city has suggested that GMRC investigate the possibility of building a second metro station within the GIFT premises.
Many people in GIFT City’s workforce come from the nearby cities of Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar. Even though there will be numerous places to live inside GIFT City, many people will live elsewhere and still want to be able to commute there for work.
An official from GIFT City stated that because of these factors and the fact that there is a need for a new metro station, GMRC authorities have been asked to investigate the possibility of developing another metro station on the GIFT premises.
According to a GMRC official, a feasibility study is now being conducted for the construction of metro stations in a variety of locations, including Rajkot, Jamnagar, Vadodara, and Bhavnagar, amongst others.
The official stated that it is vital to ensure that the distance between two metro stations is at least 1.2 to 1.5 kilometers and that this distance should be maintained in consideration of the future expansion in regions such as GIFT City, where there may be a need for more stations. He continued by saying, “Anything less will cause the train’s speed to be reduced.”
According to GIFT City sources, the location now employs 18,000 employees, but this figure is expected to rise once the Residential and Commercial infrastructure that is planned to be built in the next three to four years is constructed.
It is anticipated that the entire phase two of the metro project will be finished by the year 2026.
